4×4 Basecamp Ride (Add-On Only)

This is an add-on and must be booked with the Acatenango Hike. It cannot be purchased on its own.

Experience Overview

Skip the most physically demanding portion of the ascent with the 4×4 Basecamp Ride. This add-on takes you by off-road vehicle approximately 80% of the way up the mountain, allowing you to conserve energy for the experience at basecamp, the optional Fuego Volcano hike, and the summit push the following morning.

You’ll join the standard overnight itinerary from basecamp onward, but without the long initial climb.

Please note: a minimum of 4 participants is required for the 4×4 ride. If this minimum is not met for your selected date, the add-on will be cancelled and fully refunded.

Activity Itinerary

Day 1

• 11:45am–12:30pm — Hotel/Hostal pickup
• 12:45pm — Departure from Antigua
• 2:15pm — Arrival at drop-off point (approximately 80% up the mountain)
• 3:00pm — Arrival at basecamp
• 4:30pm — Optional Fuego Volcano hike
• 6:15pm — Return from Fuego
• 7:30pm — Dinner served

Day 2

• 4:15am — Summit hike for sunrise
• 7:00am — Breakfast at basecamp
• 9:00am — Begin descent
• 11:30am — Departure to Antigua
• 1:00pm — Arrival at your hotel/hostal

Important Notes

• This add-on replaces the first ~5 hours of hiking with a 4×4 vehicle ride
• You will still complete the summit hike and full descent on foot
• A minimum of 4 people is required for the ride to operate
• If minimum numbers are not met, the add-on will be cancelled and refunded

This add-on is ideal for those who want to experience Acatenango with reduced physical strain while still participating in the core highlights of the hike.
