We are a local family of Guatemala Certified guides in La Soledad, both Volcan Acatenango and Volcan de Fuego are our backyards literally. We take pride in offering the best quality service on the Acatenango/Fuego Volcano Hikes. We have been doing these hikes for over 10 years as guides and now we finally have the opportunity to offer these tours as guides/owners. Our top priority is your health and safety.

Do you cancel a tour if it rains or there is bad weather?
At Lava Hike Adventures, we embrace the adventure of unpredictable weather! Rain or bad weather is part of the journey, and we do not cancel tours unless there's a significant event like a tropical storm or hurricane. Our team is well-prepared to ensure your safety through professional procedures and standards, making the experience fun despite any weather challenges.
How far in advance should I book a tour?
Popular tours, such as the Acatenango overnight, tend to fill up quickly. We recommend booking online at least a week in advance. Occasionally, we may open additional tour slots, but waiting until the last minute could result in a full tour.
What if my trip dates don’t match your calendar?
Solo travelers are encouraged to be flexible and join an existing tour. However, if you’re in a group of four or more, we can often arrange a customized tour date that works for you.
How can I reserve a tour?
Tours can be reserved by contacting our tours desk via email or WhatsApp to confirm your desired dates. A trip deposit and completed client information form from our website secure your spot on the tour.

Do you rent horses for the Acatenango hike?
Yes, we can provide a horse to bring you up at a cost of $120 USD
Do we hike to Fuego? How much is it?
Yes, you have the option to hike to Fuego Volcano from Acatenango basecamp. It’s a 3-hour round trip and costs Q250/$35USD, payable after returning from the hike.
Can anyone hike Fuego?
The Fuego hike is not for everyone, it is really demanding. Our expert guides will assess your condition and determine if it’s safe for you to proceed. Please follow their instructions for your safety.
Do we need to bring sleeping gear?
No, all sleeping gear is provided at the basecamp.
Are there toilets at the basecamp?
Yes, we have a bathroom at our basecamp.
What should I carry up the mountain?
We recommend you bring a 30-35 liter backpack where you will bring your lunch, snacks, water, personal items, clothes and anything else that you think you will need for the trip. We do recommend you bringing two layers of clothes underneath your regular clothes for the night since it does get really cold at night. There is the option of having local porters carry your backpack to the basecamp. Porters at the entrance charge around ($30 USD)
Do I need to bring extra meals?
We provide 3 meals based on high protein and calorie content, essential for the hike. If you plan to hike Fuego or know you need more food, we recommend bringing extra snacks.
Do we provide water?
No, we do recommend bringing at least 4.5 liters per person, but feel free to bring more if needed. We will stop at a store on the way to our meeting point so you can buy some water and whatever snacks you’d like. We will carry most of your water, you only need to bring with you on the hike what you consider you will need
Can you find water on the way or at basecamp?
There is no water source along the way or at basecamp, so make sure to buy whatever water you think you will need for both days.
Do you think hiking poles are useful?
Yes, hiking poles help a lot for both the ascent and descent, providing stability and assisting with breathing by opening up your chest.
Do you offer porter services?
We bring most of your equipment up the mountain for you. But if you do decide that you do not want to carry your water, lunch, snacks and other personal items then there are local porters who can carry it for you.
Do you offer breakfast on the day of the hike?
No we do not. We do provide lunch, dinner and breakfast on the second day of the hike.
Do you have lockers?
No we do not, please make sure to only bring items that you know you will need on the hike or on the cabin.
How much should I tip my Lava Hike Adventures guide?
A tip of 10% of your tour cost is appreciated but it is up to you. Our guides work hard to ensure your adventure is smooth, fun, and safe. Show your gratitude with this small token of appreciation.
What should I do if I didn’t receive my confirmation email?
If you haven’t received your confirmation email within 5 minutes of placing your order, check your junk/spam folder. If it's not there, please contact us Via email or WhatsApp for assistance.
What Are The Cancellation Policies For Bookings?
Cancelations must be made at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled tour (7:30 AM the day before your trip) to receive a full refund. Cancelations within 24 hours are non-refundable. No Exceptions.
What Payment Methods Are Accepted For Bookings?
Transfers of money into account provided to you by our tour consultants. We are working on having credit cards being accepted, hopefully within the next month.
How Can I Check The Status Of My Booking?
You will receive an email confirmation once your payment is received. You can also always reach out to us by WhatsApp at the number provided at the bottom of this page.
What Should I Do If I Encounter Problems With My Booking?
You can contact us if you are having any issues with your booking at our WhatsApp number located at the bottom of all of our pages. We usually responded within 30 minutes.
Can I Modify My Booking After It's Been Confirmed?
Modifications are allowed only once and it must be at least 24 hours prior to your booked tour.
